They bet big on electrified pickups. The Chevy Silverado EV, two GMC models, the whole nine yards. Hopes were high. The reality is low.

The Numbers Don’t Lie

Look at the chart. It’s brutal. Through the first half of the year, Silverado EV sales dropped 32.5%. Dealers moved only 3,672 units. That is roughly 612 trucks a month.

Is that enough to move a brand? Barely.

The GMC side fared little better. Sierra EV sales ticked up 9.8%, hitting 3,044. Good news? Ignore it for a second because the Hummer EV lineup collapsed. Truck and SUV sales plunged nearly 55%. Down to 3,600 vehicles.

Add them all up. GM sold 10,317 electric pickups total. Now look at the old Chevy Express van. The relic. The van that runs on gas and smells like 1990s fuel lines. It found 25,41 buyers. More than two and a half times the electric output.

Demand has dried up faster than a puddle in July.

The Clearance Sale Begins

Dealers are cutting prices to make the math work. Or to make the trucks disappear.

Carr Chevrolet still has a 2025 model. The work truck. Originally $75,34 it’s now discounted by over $21k. The new sticker reads $53,94. Add $25 for docs, pay cash, and drive it away.

McCarthy in Missouri wants to move a 202 RST. Upgraded interior. Originally nearly $97k. They knocked off $15k. Price lands at $81k. Still feels rich for what it is, but hey. It’s electric.

Prefer new inventory? Advantage Chevrolet in Illinois has 202 models. An $8.5k cut on the LT Max Range brings the price to $87k. Clay Cooley in Texas dropped another $9k off their LT model. Entry price is now roughly $54k.

The GMC Alternative

Switching brands? The Sierra EV isn’t faring better in the margin department, but the discounts are real.

AutoNation in Corpus Christi saves buyers $10k on the Elevation Extended Range. Price drops from nearly $79k to roughly $69k. Covert Buick GMC knocked another $7k off the same trim. Sticker reads $61k plus $22 for paperwork.

You don’t have to take my word for it. Look around.

Dealers are listing these prices publicly because they have inventory. Some even convert unsold EVs into courtesy cars for customers waiting in the service lane. If you need a loaner, it’s likely battery-powered and fully discounted.

The trend isn’t hiding.

The market is correcting, one discounted pickup at a time.

Haggle hard. Check every lot. The era of premium pricing for these specific GM models appears to be ending abruptly. Whether that means success for buyers or failure for GM is debatable.

What’s clear is the volume is low and the prices are sliding.
