Donkervoort P24 RS: A Dutch Sports Car Powered by a Ford GT Engine

The Dutch automaker Donkervoort has unveiled its latest creation: the P24 RS, an extreme performance sports car designed for drivers seeking a raw, exhilarating experience. This vehicle isn’t just another niche offering; it represents nearly 50 years of the company’s commitment to building lightweight, exceptionally quick machines.

Core Specifications

The P24 RS is powered by a mid-mounted, turbocharged 3.5-liter Ford V6 engine producing up to 600 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. Paired with a five-speed manual transmission, the car achieves 0 to 62 mph in under 2.5 seconds and 0 to 124 mph in just 7.3 seconds.
With a weight of under 1,720 pounds, it boasts an impressive power-to-weight ratio of 770 horsepower per ton. Owners can select from 400, 500, or 600 hp output settings.

Engineering and Innovation

Donkervoort made a deliberate shift from its previous Audi-sourced five-cylinder engines to Ford’s V6, citing customer demand for a V6 configuration. The chosen engine is the same found in the Ford GT and Raptor but features bespoke turbos from Van Der Lee Turbo Systems, engineered for zero lag and precise throttle response.

The car’s lightweight construction utilizes extensive carbon fiber, manufactured through a novel process by Ex-Core. This process eliminates the need for traditional autoclaves by using molds, foam, and strategically placed heating elements to cure the carbon fiber efficiently.
Other details include 3D-printed metal exhaust tips and pop-up headlights that fold out from the nose cone at the press of a button.

Practical Considerations

Despite its focus on performance, the P24 RS isn’t entirely impractical. It includes an 8.8 cubic-foot trunk and a spacious cabin designed to comfortably accommodate drivers over 6’7” tall.
The interior features an electric handbrake, a digital instrument display with a built-in GPS lap timer, but no stereo – aligning with the car’s track-focused nature.

Market and Pricing

Production is limited to 150 units, with over 50 already reserved. The P24 RS starts at around $350,000 USD before taxes and options. This model marks the first fully independent effort under the guidance of Denis Donkervoort, who took over from his father in 2021.

The Donkervoort P24 RS stands as a testament to the enduring appeal of lightweight, high-performance sports cars. By combining innovative engineering with a relentless pursuit of speed, Donkervoort continues to carve its niche in the automotive landscape.
