Electric. Small. Fast-approaching.
The MG Go isn’t just a concept. It is a preview. The first look at the MG 2. A supermini hitting showrooms in 2027. It targets the likes of the Renault 5, maybe the Mini Cooper, too.
“It effectively the production model ‘dressed for Goodwood’,” said MG design boss Jozef Kabin.
They rolled out at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Right next to the MG Cyber, a plush SUV. Two very different flavors of MG’s expanding family. This time around though, the brand isn’t playing on budget points alone. No, the Go is positioned as fun. Fashionable.
That’s the pivot.
Not cheap. Just… cool. A new segment for the Chinese maker as they keep growing.
The details? Scarce. We know it is electric. It’s roughly four meters long, smaller than the current MG3, but sitting squarely in the Renault 5 size class. It looks like a hot hatch. Big wheels, bodykit, a rear diffuser doing the heavy lifting for that sporty vibe.
But it’s not too low. MG wanted the ground clearance to signal production intent, not just a showpiece fantasy. Kaban made sure to say this isn’t a retro remake of the old MGBs. References, sure. But it’s looking forward.
There will be lots of emotion. Kabin wants it iconic. He believes it shows the brand moving again.
David Allison, the product director for MG in the UK, thinks it opens a new door. Literally. He believes they can sell this to people who previously ignored MG. Purely because of the looks.
Think about it. The fashion-forward buyers. The ones who don’t usually check the MG lot.
Allison expects the car to hold its own. To stand tall against those other stylish small cars out there.
