Skoda is rolling out updates to its popular Enyaq and Elroq electric vehicles in mid-2024, with the models set to arrive in the UK by Q3. These aren’t radical overhauls, but rather refinements focused on improving usability, convenience, and long-term battery health. The Enyaq and Elroq are consistently among the best-selling EVs in Europe, so even incremental improvements matter.

Battery Chemistry and Longevity

The key technical change is the adoption of Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery cells for base-level (60-trim) versions. LFP batteries are known for their longer lifespans and more stable charging behavior, though range figures remain unchanged. This is a smart move, as battery durability is a top concern for EV buyers.

New Android-Based Infotainment System

Skoda is also upgrading the infotainment system to a new Android-based interface. The revised home screen now features customizable tiles and a more intuitive layout. Climate controls have been moved to the sides of the screen, a small change that improves ergonomics.

The biggest benefit is deeper Google integration: including full Google Search, saved locations, and intelligent route planning. The system also supports digital keys via smartphone and embedded apps like YouTube and Spotify.

Added Storage and Utility

For the first time on Skoda’s MEB platform vehicles, the updated Enyaq and Elroq receive a 22-liter “frunk” (front trunk). This is a welcome addition for EV owners who often carry extra charging cables or small cargo. The frunk now includes gas struts for easier access and is shaped to accommodate those cables.

Additional upgrades include a 230V outlet in the boot and a vehicle-to-load adapter, allowing you to power external devices. Faster charging capabilities are also included.

Pricing and Availability

Skoda has not yet announced pricing for the updated models, but it’s expected to remain similar to current pricing: starting around £34,000 for the Elroq and £40,000 for the Enyaq. These updates are designed to enhance the ownership experience without significantly raising costs.

These enhancements reinforce Skoda’s commitment to making EVs more practical and user-friendly, addressing key concerns of potential buyers. The combination of improved battery longevity, smarter infotainment, and added storage makes these models even more competitive in the growing EV market.
