Great Wall Motors (GWM) is actively promoting its plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) lineup with a new test-drive campaign that includes complimentary scheduled servicing as an incentive for buyers. The move is part of a larger effort to solidify GWM’s position in the rapidly growing Australian PHEV market.

Test Drive and Savings Details

From February 21 to March 7, 2026, customers who finalize a purchase for most GWM PHEV models will receive three free scheduled services. The savings vary by model:
* Haval H6 GT PHEV: Up to $1060
* Haval H6 PHEV: Up to $1085
* Tank 500 PHEV: Up to $1455
* Cannon Alpha PHEV: Up to $1595

The offer excludes the Tank 300 Hi4-T, which may have separate promotions. GWM states the initiative is designed to make advanced hybrid technology more accessible to consumers.

GWM’s PHEV Technology and Range

GWM currently utilizes two PHEV systems, Hi4 and Hi4-T, both featuring dual electric motors. The Hi4-T system, found in the Tank 300, Tank 500, and Cannon Alpha, stands out by combining electric power with a traditional mechanical four-wheel drive system including low-range gearing and locking differentials – a feature appealing to off-road enthusiasts.

The company has expanded its PHEV range rapidly, with all current models launching in 2025, except the Tank 300 PHEV, which is due in March 2026. The broader PHEV range is also currently subject to discounted pricing until February 28, 2026.

Market Performance and Growth

Despite being relatively new to the Australian PHEV sector, GWM achieved significant sales volume in 2025. The company ranked as the third-largest PHEV brand in Australia, delivering 4162 units. This placed it behind Mitsubishi (5407 deliveries) and market leader BYD (27,128). GWM also secured the third-best spot in overall hybrid sales, offering hybrid versions of the Haval Jolion, Haval H6, Tank 300, and Tank 500. Notably, GWM discontinued the hybrid Cannon Alpha in favor of the PHEV variant last year.

“By trialling a new energy vehicle, customers can discover an unparalleled driving and ownership experience, underscoring GWM’s dedication to making advanced hybrid technology more accessible”

GWM’s aggressive expansion into the PHEV market reflects a broader industry trend toward electrification. The company’s success in Australia demonstrates growing consumer demand for fuel-efficient vehicles with both electric and gasoline capabilities. This trend will likely intensify as governments introduce stricter emissions standards and incentives for low-emission vehicles.
