The BMW Z4 and its twin, the Toyota Supra, are nearing the end of their current production run. BMW has confirmed the Z4 Final Edition, signaling the end of the line for the current generation in March 2026, after nearly eight years on the market. This follows Toyota’s earlier announcement in August 2025 that it would discontinue the Supra, which shares the same platform and production line as the Z4.

The End of a Collaboration

The Z4 and Supra have a unique history. The Supra, in its latest iteration, was essentially a rebadged Z4 produced in Austria. This collaboration allowed both brands to offer a sports car without the full development costs. The demise of the Supra was confirmed with the release of a limited-edition “Final Edition” model, restricted to 300 units worldwide. Notably, neither the Z4 Final Edition nor the Supra Final Edition will be available in Australia.

What the Final Edition Offers

The Z4 Final Edition is not a standalone model but an upgrade package for existing Z4s equipped with the M Sport pack. The key visual change is an exclusive Frozen Matt black paint, though other colors are available. Red brake calipers and high-gloss Shadowline trim provide contrasting accents. Inside, red stitching adds a sporty touch to the dash, console, and door panels. The Final Edition package adds roughly $7,500 to the standard price, which in Australia ranges from $103,400 to $142,700.

What’s Next?

While BMW hasn’t announced a direct successor to the Z4, Toyota is rumored to be planning a new Supra for as early as 2027. Early reports suggest a hybrid powertrain with up to 373kW of power, exceeding the 320kW offered in the outgoing Final Edition. Toyota will also reintroduce the Celica nameplate with a new sports car, with plans confirmed by Toyota chairman Akio Toyoda in late 2024. Additionally, the GR GT sports car, expected to feature a hybrid V8 engine, will be unveiled in December 2025.

The end of the Z4 and Supra marks the close of a chapter in automotive collaboration. While both models are fading out, Toyota seems determined to continue its sports car legacy with upcoming models like the Celica and GR GT.
