Tesla has expanded the Model Y lineup in the UK with the addition of a seven-seat configuration, priced from £54,490—a £2,500 premium over the standard five-seat version. This move addresses a significant gap in Tesla’s offerings, providing families with an electric vehicle capable of accommodating up to seven passengers.
Third-Row Access and Amenities
The third row is designed for ease of access, featuring sliding and folding rear seats with integrated control buttons. While the rear passengers gain two cupholders and USB-C ports with matching leatherette upholstery, the omission of Isofix anchor points limits its suitability for child seats. This is a notable trade-off for families prioritizing safety and convenience.
Performance and Range
The seven-seat Model Y is currently available exclusively with the Long Range All-Wheel Drive powertrain, offering a claimed range of up to 372 miles. The dual-motor setup delivers 370bhp, enabling a 0-60mph acceleration time of 4.6 seconds. Despite its performance capabilities, Tesla claims adequate space remains for passengers and luggage.
Storage Capacity
With all seats in use, the Model Y provides 381 liters of storage behind the third row—enough for two carry-on suitcases. The front trunk (“frunk”) offers an additional 116 liters, suitable for soft bags or charging cables. Folding the third row expands cargo space to 778 liters, rivaling larger seven-seat EVs like the Kia EV9, which costs approximately £10,000 more.
Availability and Pricing
Deliveries of the seven-seat Model Y are scheduled to begin in May, following the recent introduction of the more affordable Rear-Wheel Drive variant starting at £41,990. This expansion of the Model Y lineup further positions Tesla as a leader in the electric vehicle market, offering a range of options to meet varying customer needs and budgets.
The addition of a seven-seat option is a practical step for Tesla, broadening the appeal of the Model Y to larger families while maintaining competitive pricing in the EV sector.
