Lucid Gravity Finally Gains Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Support

Lucid Motors is addressing a major customer request by integrating Apple CarPlay and Android Auto into its Gravity SUV. The long-awaited feature will arrive via an over-the-air (OTA) software update, bringing the luxury electric vehicle in line with industry standards. This update enhances the Gravity’s infotainment system, allowing drivers to seamlessly connect their smartphones for navigation, music streaming, messaging, and app access.

Why This Matters

The absence of CarPlay and Android Auto has been a notable pain point for Lucid owners, despite the company’s otherwise advanced software capabilities. These smartphone mirroring systems are among the most highly demanded features in modern cars, offering a familiar and convenient user experience. The inclusion of these tools will significantly improve the Gravity’s appeal and address a key criticism leveled by customers.

How the Update Works

The update supports both wireless and wired connections, providing flexibility for different devices. According to Lucid, the rollout will begin in North America, with additional markets to follow shortly after.

“Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are two of the most sought-after features by our customers,” said Emad Dlala, SVP of Engineering and Software at Lucid. “We are now providing a seamless connection between mobile devices and the Lucid Gravity. We’re excited to introduce these features to Lucid Gravity, which now offers even greater comfort and convenience for owners.”

Existing Owners and Future Models

Critically, the update will be available to all existing Gravity owners via OTA, meaning no trip to the service center is required. New Gravity vehicles rolling off the production line will include CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. The Lucid Air sedan already supports these systems, making the Gravity the logical next step in feature parity.

Lucid’s Software-First Approach

This move underscores Lucid’s commitment to a software-centric vehicle experience. The company claims that over 95% of vehicle functions can be refined or expanded through OTA updates, allowing for continuous improvements without requiring hardware changes. This strategy aims to maintain vehicle value and attract new buyers by promising a constantly evolving product.

The addition of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to the Lucid Gravity is a key step in solidifying the SUV’s position in the luxury EV market. By prioritizing software updates, Lucid is ensuring its vehicles remain competitive and responsive to customer demands.
