Hongqi, a luxury automotive brand from China, has announced a remarkable achievement for its HS6 plug-in hybrid SUV: a Guinness World Record for the longest distance traveled by a plug-in hybrid SUV on a single charge and full tank of fuel. The vehicle successfully completed a 2,327.343 km journey, demonstrating impressive range and efficiency.

The Record-Breaking Journey

The record-breaking drive began on October 30th in Shangri-La and concluded in Guangzhou on November 3rd. The HS6 PHEV traversed a route encompassing several cities including Kunming, Baise, and Wuzhou, showcasing its capabilities across varying terrains and conditions. This feat underscores the growing competitiveness of Chinese automakers in the global market.

Design and Dimensions

The HS6 PHEV boasts a striking exterior design. Its closed-off grille features a waterfall style, accentuated by 12 vertical chrome strips and the distinctive Hongqi red logo. The SUV’s dimensions are 4995 mm (length) x 1960 mm (width) x 1760 mm (height), with a generous 2920 mm wheelbase. Curb weights vary between 2,040 kg and 2,285 kg, depending on the configuration.

Powertrain and Performance

At its heart, the HS6 PHEV is powered by a 1.5T engine. This engine delivers a maximum power of 110 kW (148 hp) and a peak torque of 225 Nm, with an impressive thermal efficiency of 45.21%. The vehicle is available in both two-wheel and four-wheel drive configurations. System power outputs range from 168 kW (225 hp) to an impressive 369 kW (495 hp), allowing for a top speed of 205 km/h.

Battery Options and Range

Consumers can choose from two lithium iron phosphate battery pack options: 23.9 kWh and 39.5 kWh. These batteries provide a CLTC pure electric range of 152 km, 250 km, and 235 km, respectively. The comprehensive range, combining electric and gasoline power, is reported by Sohu as 1,580 km, 1,650 km, and 1,460 km depending on the battery size. These figures highlight the potential for long-distance travel with reduced fuel consumption.

Luxurious Interior and Features

The HS6 PHEV’s interior is designed with luxury and convenience in mind. The layered dashboard incorporates a sophisticated integrated dual-screen setup—a central control screen, a co-pilot entertainment screen— alongside a digital instrument cluster and a three-spoke multi-function steering wheel. Other notable features include:

  • 50 W wireless charging for mobile phones
  • Dual cupholders on the center console
  • An onboard refrigerator
  • A 12-speaker sound system

The front and rear seats offer electric adjustment, ventilation, and heating functions. Notably, the co-pilot seat is a “zero-gravity” design, complete with a legrest and a 10-point massage function. The standard trunk capacity is 503 liters, with an additional 49 liters of hidden space. Folding down the rear seats expands the trunk volume to a total of 1,977 liters.

The record and the vehicle’s specifications show that Hongqi is aiming for the luxury SUV market with a focus on long-distance comfort and advanced technology.

With pre-sales scheduled to begin on November 15th in China, the Hongqi HS6 PHEV is poised to make a significant impact on the plug-in hybrid SUV market, driven by its combination of range, luxury, and now, a Guinness World Record. It demonstrates the continued advancement and competitiveness of Chinese automotive engineering and design.
