Dacia to Launch Striker Estate: A New Sub-£25,000 Option for European Buyers

Dacia will unveil its new Striker estate on March 10th, a model designed to tap into the competitive C-segment market with a price tag under £25,000. The vehicle is expected to fill a gap in Dacia’s lineup, targeting buyers who prefer a more traditional estate body style over the increasingly popular SUV format.

Expanding into the C-Segment

The Striker’s arrival is part of a broader strategy by Dacia to expand its presence in Europe’s most lucrative car market. The company has already seen success with the Bigster, a large SUV that now accounts for 20% of Dacia’s sales. The Striker, closely related to the Bigster, is intended to capture a different segment of buyers who prioritize practicality and value over the elevated driving position and styling of SUVs.

CEO Katrin Adt highlighted the confidence behind this expansion, stating that the Bigster’s strong performance has proven Dacia’s ability to compete effectively in the C-segment. The company intends to launch a third, currently unnamed, C-segment model next year, further solidifying its position in the market.

Filling a Gap: Non-SUV Buyers

The Striker will likely appeal to a significant segment of buyers who still prefer a lower driving position, better efficiency, and a less ostentatious design. Former Dacia product performance boss Patrice Lévy-Bencheton noted that many consumers want “the performance, the comfort and the pleasure of having a slightly bigger car but who are not attracted by the SUV shape.” This suggests Dacia is intentionally positioning the Striker as a more understated alternative to bulkier SUVs.

Design and Specifications

Leaked images reveal that the Striker will essentially be a stretched and lifted version of the Sandero, resulting in a high-riding estate roughly 4.6 meters long. This approach allows Dacia to leverage existing platform development and keep production costs low, aligning with the brand’s core value proposition of affordability.

The Striker’s design shows that Dacia is not afraid to go against the grain in an SUV-dominated market. The company is betting that there is enough demand for a practical, affordable estate to make it a success.

The Striker’s launch represents a calculated move by Dacia to broaden its reach and capture buyers who are seeking a different kind of vehicle in the crowded C-segment. The model will likely put pressure on competitors who may not have an equivalent offering at a similar price point.
