BMW is discontinuing the Z4 roadster, marking the end of an era for the German automaker’s popular two-seater. To commemorate the occasion, a limited-run “Final Edition” model based on the Z4 M40i will be produced, though at a significant price premium.
Last Chance for a Classic
The Z4 Final Edition will be offered in a single, fully-equipped configuration. Buyers can only choose between an eight-speed automatic or a six-speed manual transmission. The manual version includes the “Edition Handschalter Package,” which fine-tunes rear dampers, steering, traction control, and the M Sport differential for a more engaging driving experience.
The car retains the M40i’s turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine, delivering 382 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. It rides on staggered 19-inch front and 20-inch rear Dual-Spoke Bicolor 800M wheels.
Distinctive Styling
Every Final Edition will be finished in BMW Individual Frozen Black metallic paint, complemented by the Shadowline Package for gloss-black accents on the mirrors, grille, air intakes, and exhaust. The soft top is Moonlight Black, and red brake calipers add a sporty touch.
Inside, red contrast stitching highlights the instrument panel, center console, door panels, and M Sport seats. Black Vernasca leather and Alcantara trim complete the interior, along with unique door sill plates identifying it as the Z4 Final Edition.
Premium Features Included
The Final Edition comes standard with the Driver Assistance Package, a Harmon Kardon sound system, and the Premium Package, which adds ambient lighting, a head-up display, and other conveniences.
Limited Availability and Cost
Production is capped at “very small numbers” between February and April next year. The Z4 Final Edition starts at $78,675, including destination charges – a premium over the regular 2026 Z4 M40i’s $69,575 price tag.
Future Outlook
While Toyota, which co-developed the Z4 with its own Supra model, has announced a successor, BMW has yet to confirm plans for a fourth-generation Z4. Production of the Toyota Supra ends in March 2024, but the Z4’s future remains uncertain.
The discontinuation of the Z4 signals a shift in BMW’s lineup, leaving enthusiasts with a final opportunity to own a piece of automotive history before it’s gone. Whether the Z4 returns in another form remains to be seen, making this Final Edition a significant moment for roadster fans.
