Leapmotor recently completed a groundbreaking real-world test of its D19 SUV, demonstrating exceptional stability even after a simultaneous double tire blowout at speeds up to 120 km/h on ice and snow. This test is significant because tire failures are a leading cause of vehicle loss of control, especially in poor road conditions. Leapmotor claims this is the first time such a test has been performed under these extreme conditions, and the results highlight the effectiveness of their LMC (Leapmotor Integrated Motion Control) system.
LMC System: How It Works
The D19’s LMC system reacts in just 200 milliseconds to a tire burst. It immediately raises the suspension height on the affected side, leveling the vehicle and maintaining directional stability. This rapid response prevents violent shaking or veering off course, allowing drivers to safely bring the vehicle to a controlled stop.
Powertrain and Performance Options
The D19 is built on Leapmotor’s D platform and comes in two variants: a Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) and an Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV).
- EREV Variant: This version features all-wheel drive (AWD) with Leapmotor’s CTC battery technology, delivering a combined 400 kW (536 hp) and 7,850 Nm of wheel-end torque. It uses an 80.3 kWh CATL battery pack and offers a CLTC pure electric range of 500 km.
- BEV Variant: The fully electric model boasts an even more powerful 540 kW (724 hp) and 8,770 Nm of torque. A larger 115 kWh battery provides a CLTC range of 720 km.
Both variants employ a high-voltage (1000 V) electric drive system for improved efficiency and performance.
Advanced Features and Interior Tech
Leapmotor has integrated cutting-edge features into the D19, including:
- Lighting: Million-pixel DLP headlights and a 1,958 mm wide integrated taillight cluster with a digital display.
- Screen Technology: A massive 60-inch AR-HUD, a 10.25-inch instrument cluster, a 17.3-inch central control screen powered by dual Qualcomm Snapdragon 8797 chips (1280 TOPS computing power), and a 21.4-inch 3K ceiling entertainment screen for rear passengers.
- Space and Storage: The D19 offers either 6 or 7-seater configurations with a standard trunk capacity of 337 L (expandable to 2,677 L) and an additional 176 L front trunk.
The vehicle’s dimensions are 5252/1995/1800 (or 1780) mm (l/w/h) with a 3110 mm wheelbase.
Market Availability
The Leapmotor D19 was available for pre-orders starting November 21st, 2025, with official market entry expected in April of this year.
Leapmotor’s D19 demonstrates a commitment to advanced safety and performance, positioning it as a competitive player in the EV market. The successful tire blowout test, in particular, showcases the real-world benefits of integrated vehicle control systems.
