Geely has updated its Galaxy Starshine 6 plug-in hybrid sedan, significantly increasing its electric driving range. The new version retains the existing 1.5-liter, 82 kW (110 hp) engine but now features a larger 28.3 kWh battery pack, up from previous options of 8.5 kWh and 17 kWh. This upgrade extends the pure electric range to 170 km under CLTC testing conditions – a gain of up to 45 km over the current models.
Design and Dimensions Remain Consistent
Externally, the Starshine 6 remains unchanged. The vehicle maintains its dimensions of 4806/1886/1490 mm (length/width/height) with a 2756 mm wheelbase and a curb weight of 1625 kg. The design continues to feature a large trapezoidal grille, traditional door handles, and through-type taillights.
Powertrain Details and Performance
The updated model combines the 1.5-liter engine with Geely’s EM-i NordThor Hybrid 2.0 system, which includes a 120 kW (161 hp) front electric motor paired with an E-DHT transmission. While official specifications for the electric motor are pending, the existing system produces a combined output suitable for efficient daily driving.
Sales Performance and Market Positioning
The Geely Galaxy Starshine 6 has seen steady sales growth since its launch in October 2025:
– First month: 1,532 units sold
– November: 6,433 units sold
– December: 8,708 units sold
Currently priced between 74,800 and 105,800 yuan (approximately $10,800 to $15,300 USD) across seven trims, the Starshine 6 competes in the mid-size plug-in hybrid market.
Methanol Hybrid Variant in Development
In addition to the standard PHEV, Geely is also preparing a methanol-powered plug-in hybrid version of the Starshine 6. This variant will utilize a 1.5-liter engine producing 93 kW (125 hp) and a lithium iron phosphate battery.
The increased battery capacity in the updated Starshine 6 PHEV addresses a key consumer demand for longer electric driving ranges, positioning it as a competitive option in China’s rapidly expanding plug-in hybrid market.
