Subaru has announced significant price reductions for the 2026 Forester, with the hybrid models receiving the most substantial cuts. The move comes as automakers increasingly focus on affordability amid shifting market conditions and consumer demand.
Hybrid Savings Lead the Way
The most aggressive discounts apply to the Forester Hybrid lineup. The Limited trim now starts at $40,445 – $1,985 less than the 2025 model year, despite no changes to its standard features. The base hybrid model drops to $36,180, a reduction of $1,835. The Sport and Touring trims also receive cuts of $1,635 and $1,720 respectively.
These price adjustments make the Forester Hybrid a more competitive option in the rapidly expanding hybrid SUV segment. The cuts demonstrate Subaru’s willingness to adapt pricing to attract buyers, particularly as consumers weigh fuel efficiency against upfront costs.
Non-Hybrid Trims Also See Adjustments
While the hybrid trims dominate the savings, several non-hybrid models also benefit from lower prices. The Premium trim is $1,360 cheaper, while the Sport, Limited, and Touring trims are discounted by $1,280, $1,670, and $1,570 respectively.
However, the rugged Wilderness trim bucks the trend with a $740 price increase. This is due to the 2025 Wilderness being a carryover from the previous generation, while the 2026 model fully adopts the updated design introduced last year across the rest of the Forester range.
New Onyx Edition Added to Lineup
Subaru has introduced a new Onyx Edition to the non-hybrid Forester lineup. Priced at $37,945, the Onyx Edition is essentially an appearance package featuring black 19-inch wheels, dark gray exterior trim, and black interior accents with brown stitching.
This addition caters to buyers seeking a more aggressive aesthetic without significant mechanical upgrades. The Onyx Edition is based on the mid-range Sport trim and provides a visually distinct option within the Forester family.
The 2026 Forester price cuts signal Subaru’s commitment to remaining competitive in the compact SUV market. By prioritizing affordability, particularly in the hybrid segment, Subaru aims to attract a wider range of buyers facing rising vehicle costs. The addition of the Onyx Edition further diversifies the lineup, offering consumers more choices to match their style preferences.
