The GWM Tank 300 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) is set to arrive in Australian showrooms from early April 2026, expanding the popular off-road SUV lineup. The new model combines a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with a substantial 37.11kWh battery, offering a significant boost in efficiency and electric range.

Performance and Range

The Tank 300 PHEV delivers a combined range of 955km and an all-electric range of 115km (NEDC cycle). Fuel consumption is rated at just 1.9L/100km, though this rises to 8.3L/100km when the battery is depleted – still slightly better than the standard hybrid model at 8.4L/100km. The powertrain generates 300kW and 750Nm of torque, enabling a 0-100km/h sprint in a claimed 6.3 seconds.

Key Features and Capabilities

The PHEV variants include a new Tow Mode (initially exclusive to Lux and Ultra grades). Despite the added battery, ground clearance is reduced by only 2mm, and the vehicle retains its capable four-wheel drive system with low-range gearing, crawl control, and turn assist.

A new exterior color, Sundrift Sand, is exclusive to the PHEV models, replacing the Lunar Red option from the standard range.

Pricing and Availability

GWM is currently offering a $1,000 discount on all petrol, diesel, and hybrid Tank 300 variants until February 28, 2026. The PHEV pricing is part of a “limited-time special launch offer” with an unspecified end date.

  • Lux PHEV: $85,990 drive-away
  • Ultra PHEV: $91,990 drive-away

Charging and Utility

The Tank 300 PHEV can be charged from 30 to 80 percent in approximately 24 minutes using a 50kW DC fast charger. It also features vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability, allowing you to power external devices at up to 6kW.

The boot space measures 360 liters with the seats up, expanding to 1520 liters when folded.

Safety and Equipment

The Tank 300 maintains its five-star ANCAP safety rating. Standard safety features include adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and a surround-view camera with a “Transparent Chassis Function.”

Trim levels include Lux and Ultra, with the Ultra offering additional features like Nappa leather upholstery, heated and ventilated seats, and advanced parking assistance.

Warranty and Servicing

GWM provides a seven-year, unlimited-kilometer warranty with seven years of roadside assistance. The hybrid battery pack is covered for eight years without mileage restrictions. Scheduled maintenance is required every 12 months or 15,000km after the initial 12-month/10,000km service. Service pricing for PHEV models has not yet been announced.

The Tank 300 PHEV expands GWM’s electrified lineup, joining the Tank 500, Haval H6, and Cannon Alpha in offering a plug-in hybrid powertrain option. This move underscores the growing demand for efficient and versatile vehicles in the Australian market.
