BYD has unveiled the interior of its forthcoming Great Tang, a flagship all-electric SUV positioned in the competitive D-segment market. The vehicle distinguishes itself with an ultra-long range, a spacious cabin, and a tech-heavy design centered around multiple integrated screens. A plug-in hybrid variant will follow.

Interior Design and Tech Features

The Great Tang’s interior features a unique 2+2+3 seating arrangement, accommodating up to seven passengers. The dashboard is dominated by three seamlessly integrated screens: an instrument panel for the driver, a central control touchscreen, and a dedicated entertainment screen for the front passenger. A fourth, ceiling-mounted screen provides rear passengers with entertainment options, alongside fold-out tables and even a built-in refrigerator.

The design emphasizes a modern, minimalist aesthetic, with screens blending into the dashboard surface to create a flowing, concave effect. Screen sizes remain undisclosed.

Performance and Range

BYD will offer both rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) configurations. The RWD models will be available in two power options: 300 kW (402 hp) and 370 kW (496 hp). The AWD variant adds a 215 kW (288 hp) front motor for enhanced performance.

Key specs include:

  • Maximum range (RWD): up to 950 km (approximately 590 miles)
  • Maximum range (AWD): up to 850 km (approximately 528 miles)
  • Top speed: either 240 km/h (149 mph) or 250 km/h (155 mph), depending on the trim.
  • Fast charging: capable of adding 200 km (124 miles) of range in just 5 minutes.

The vehicle utilizes BYD’s Blade battery technology, though specific capacity details are yet to be released.

Dimensions and Advanced Systems

The Great Tang is a large SUV, measuring between 5263 mm and 5302 mm in length, 1999 mm in width, and 1790 mm to 1800 mm in height. The wheelbase is 3130 mm. Curb weights range from 2,640 kg to 2,970 kg.

Beyond performance, the Great Tang will include BYD’s “God’s Eye” advanced driving assistance system, featuring roof-mounted lidar for enhanced perception. Other features include a panoramic sunroof and DiSus-P Intelligent Damping Body Control System for a smoother ride, plus rear-wheel steering for improved maneuverability.

The SUV will also be equipped with BYD’s Flash Charge technology, allowing rapid battery replenishment. Tire options include 265/45R21, 255/50R20, and 275/45R20.

The BYD Great Tang signals a significant push by the company into the premium electric SUV segment, combining long-range capability with a luxurious and technologically advanced interior. With its high-performance options and fast-charging capabilities, the vehicle is positioned to compete directly with established players in the market.
